Recently, the Ministry of Education issued the Notice on the List of Top-notch Students Cultivation Program 2.0 Bases in Basic Discipline (2020), and China Pharmaceutical University's Top-notch Students Cultivation Base in Basic Pharmacy was successfully selected!
Basic disciplines are the source, forerunner and backbone of a nation’s innovation and development, and cultivating top-notch talents in basic disciplines is a critical strategic task to build a powerful country in higher education. The cultivation program for top-notch students in basic disciplines 2.0 aims to fully implement the fundamental tasks of fostering virtue through education and establish a number of national cultivation bases for young talents by following the rule of talents growth in basic disciplines. It also targets to establish a new mechanism to encourage the standing-out of top-notch talents by strengthening key reform measures such as scientifically sound mission-driven and identification procedures of talents selction. Further, it formulates the guidance of masters in relevant domains, creates novel learning approaches by promoting the integration of science and education and deepening international cooperation.
Over the years, CPU has attached great importance to the cultivation of top-notch talents in basic disciplines, and laid a profound foundation for the cultivation of top-notch students. Since 1994, our university has been exploring the cultivation mode of top-notch talents. Since 2013, the school has designed and independently implemented the Pharmaceutical Top-notch Innovative Talents Cultivation Program according to the national top-notch program 1.0 standard, adopting the cultivation mode of One Systems with Three Features (i.e., one tutorial system with individualization, small class setting and internationalization), focusing on the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. This successful attempt follows the advance of global pharmaceutical science, explores the rule of top-notch pharmaceutical talents growth in the new era. The top-notch program has enrolled 225 students in 7 rounds. Up to now, there have been 4 rounds (Class 2013 -2016) of graduates, and most of them are studying in universities or institutes at home and abroad.
In recent years, our universtiy has insisted on cultivating talents by virtue, continuously and comprehensively deepening the education and teaching reform. At present, five majors of CPU, namely, pharmacy, traditional Chinese medicines, biopharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical engineering and clinical pharmacy, have been awarded the First List of National First-Class Undergraduate Majors; Fourteen courses, including chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, medicinal botany, pharmaceutical engineering, biopharmaceutical technology and Chinese pharmaceutical regulations, were award the First List of National First-Class Undergraduate Courses. In October, 2020, three projects of our university, namely, the construction of innovative pharmaceutical industrial colleges and the cultivation system of new pharmaceutical engineering talents, the investigation on the cultivation mechanism of top-notch innovative pharmaceutical talents leading the innovation of research and manufacture of new drugs, and the construction of multidisciplinary integration curriculum system and practical innovation platform for the cultivation of intelligent pharmaceutical engineering talents, were included in the Second List of New Engineering Research and Practice Projects of the Ministry of Education. Presently, seven projects on new engineering practice of CPU have been approved, ranking the first in pharmaceutical colleges and universities at home, setting a solid ground for top-notch talents cultivation.
CPU comprehensively promotes the cultivation reform and mechanism innovation of top-notch innovative talents. In February 2020, Mudi Meng Honors College was established to overall coordinate the majors of One Top, Two Bases and Three Outstanding Engineers and implement the honorary education mechanism. In the coming future, CPU will take the opportunity of being included into the National Top-notch Students Cultivation Program 2.0 Base for Basic Discipline, give full play to the advantages of academical universities targeted pharmaceutical industry, adhere to the motto of Be committed to academic excellence, be devoted to public health. And CPU will devote itself to cultivating top-notch talents with the strong will of Advancing pharmacy for the public, bringing glory to CPU and serving the country and the talents combining liberal arts and science with and specialized studies, which can tackle the medical science and technology problems pressing human health and maintain sustainable development in the future.
